Animals that get into your attic such as Squirrels, Raccoons, Opossums, etc. can do tremendous
damage.
Enough droppings, urine and animal odors may actually make your home or office
uninhabitable until the issue is resolved. Once the animals are trapped and removed, you may
need to have the droppings vacuumed and the insulation replaced. If a mother raccoon has her babies
in your attic your sheet rock may also need to be repaired.  Animal Trapping, Relocation and Repairing
entry points is the only way to ensure the safety of these animals and your family.

Armadillo Trapping
The Nine-banded Armadillo is a cat-sized,
armored, insect-eating mammal, similar in form
to an Anteater.  The bony, scaled shell of the
armadillo protects it from attacks by predators.
Unfortunately, Armadillos often fall victim to
automobiles and are frequently found dead on
roadsides.

Armadillos are prolific diggers. They dig many
burrows, as well as dig for food. Many other
wildlife species use and benefit from abandoned
Armadillo burrows.

Habits:
Driven by its appetite for grubs and other insects,
they can cause serious damage to lawns or
landscaping. The Armadillo eats insects and
other invertebrates. They are skilled at digging
for grubs and occasionally eat berries and bird
eggs.

Disease
The Armadillo is the only animal, aside from
humans, known to carry leprosy.

Solution:
Trapping and Relocation of the Armadillo is the
only humane way to rid yourself of these little
tank like creatures.

Opossum Trapping
North America's only marsupial (female has a
pouch) mammal, the female carries and nurses
her yound in her pouch until they are about 2-3
months old; then they are carried on her back
another 1-2 months whenever they are away
from the den.

Females have litters up to twice a year (the father
always skips town!). Babies, typically 5 to 8 in a
litter are ready to leave mommy's pouch and
walk around out on their own by 4 months of
age. That's when they are 7 to 9 inches, nose to
rump, and weigh about 10 to 16 ounces.

Opossums have a prehensile tail. Prehensile
means that the tail is adapted for seizing,
grasping, and wrapping itself around objects.
The common picture of Opossums hanging by
their tails is, for the most part, a myth. A young
Opossum may hang briefly by its tail. But an
adult Opossum's body is far too heavy to be held
suspended by its tail. The Opossum actually
uses its tail to stabilize its body while climbing.

They help to maintain a clean and healthy
environment. They eat all types of insects,
including cockroaches, crickets, beetles, etc.
They catch and eat Norway Rats, Roof Rats, Mice,
and consume dead animals of all types (carrion).
They like over-ripe fruit, berries, and grapes.
And they think snails and slugs are a delicacy!

Habits:
Solitary and nocturnal: usually slow moving;
when frightened they will hiss or growl and show
their 50 sharp teeth when frightened; but, in
reality, they are gentle and placid- they prefer to
avoid all confrontations and wish to be left
alone. If they are unable to flee, they may fall
into an involuntary shock-like state, "playing
possum".

Solution:
Opossum exclusion, trapping and relocation is
the only humane way to remove these gentle
marsupials.

Raccoon Trapping
Raccoons can and will cause tremendous
damage to gain entry to a "safe" nesting location,
which often may be your home or business.

Fort Worth based Assassin Exterminating's
Trained and Licensed Trappers will be able to
tell whether or not Raccoons and litters are
located in your home.

If they are, and you seal the areas prematurely
with the mother left outside, she will do whatever
is necessary to gain access to her young.
Raccoons are strong enough to rip off roof vents
to gain access.

Habits:
The Raccoon leads a largely solitary life. It is
temperamental and will often fight with its own
family members as well as with other Raccoons.
Although most Raccoons live in the wild, close
contact with humans does not bother them. They
often nest in empty buildings, garages, sheds,
and even the attics of houses. Since Raccoons
are nocturnal animals, they are most active at
night. Raccoons do not hibernate in the winter,
but those that live further north, where it is
colder, grow thick coats to keep them warm and
spend long periods sleeping.

Disease:
Viral diseases of raccoons include rabies,
canine distemper, raccoon parvoviralenteritis,
infectious canine hepatitis, and pseudorabies.

Solution:
Raccoons digging in your garbage and making a
mess? Our Wildlife Control Specialists will trap
and remove your Raccoons to a safer location.  If
you would like, Assassin Exterminating can
provide professional repair of damage caused by
these clever animals.

It is absolutely unmistakable. That awful,
penetrating odor that seems to just cling to
everything near the source of it. You pray that
your curious dog doesn't discover a Skunk in
the backyard, and come galloping into the house
to share his misery with the whole family.
Even
worse, you hope a Skunk does not discover
the doggie-door itself, and come into the
house to wander around and possibly leave
the terrible problem on the carpet or
furniture. This, of course, just has to be Skunks.

Habits:
Skunks are nocturnal, sleeping during the day
in underground burrows and emerging at
around  dusk to search for food. They prefer to
use existing burrows made by other animals of
equal size or natural burrows under tree stumps
or in buildings. They use their long front claws
to build their own den if necessary, and this
ability to dig in the soil becomes one of the
problems we deal with when we have skunks
living around us. An absolute gourmet delight to
a Skunk is a large, plump, juicy grub, or beetle
larva, and in much of the Southern U.S., grubs
are common problems in lawns, where they feed
on the roots of the turf and cause serious
damage. While the Skunk is doing us a favor by
eating the grubs, it is necessary for it to expose
the grubs first, so it may frantically dig up the
lawn to get to the food it can smell or hear below.

Skunks are not overly concerned about the
presence of people - confident with their form of
defense apparently - so they will commonly be
found around human dwellings. They will hide
under the house if there is a crawlspace, in an
attic if they can find an opening and a tree to
climb, in garages if access is provided through a
doggie door, or under decks in the yard.

The release of Skunk musk is purely defensive,
and used only as a last resort. When they are
frightened they first will stamp their front feet as
a warning to the attacker, and if the threat
remains the squirt of musk will follow. With the
right conditions this odor can be smelled up to a
mile away.
There are a number of effective
deodorizers that can be used on surfaces
that have been sprayed, along with thorough
washing of the surface, which will remove
the odor. Recommended for washing are
solutions of sudsy ammonia, vinegar, or canned
tomatoes. If pets are sprayed, the harsh ammonia
solution should not be used, but the tomato
juice recommendation does seem to have some
good results. The vinegar and water solution
could also be used on the fur, carefully avoiding
the eyes of the pet.

Disease:
Another very serious problem associated with
Skunks is rabies, and in many parts of the U.S.
Skunks are considered to be
THE PRIMARY
CARRIER
of this disease. Sampling studies in
California over a five year period determined that
as much as 65% of Skunks are infected with the
disease, and rabies can be transmitted to people
or pets when bitten by the infected skunk. This
is a very serious disease, and will cause human
death if not treated. To quote from a U. S.
Department of Agriculture bulletin on skunks,
they also are carriers of leptospirosis, listeriosis,
canine distemper, canine hepatitis, Q-fever,
tularemia, and trypanosoma.
Skunks also are
heavily infested with ticks, fleas, and mites,
some of which themselves are vectors of
diseases humans can catch.

Solution:
Skunk exclusion, trapping, relocation and
deodorizing is the only humane way to rid your
property of these live stink bombs.

Squirrel Trapping
Squirrels are members of the rodent family. The
most frequently dealt with nuisance squirrel is
16-18 inches from nose to tail and weighs
approximately one pound. Gray squirrels are
active year-round and arboreal, meaning that
they live primarily in trees.

Habits:
They feed on a great variety of grains and of
course the seeds in your bird feeder. They store
nuts and acorns in holes in the ground.
Squirrels have easily adapted to humans. They
frequently use buildings as nesting areas.
Squirrels love to break into a house and stay in
an attic or soffit. They often find a small opening
and will chew a wider hole to gain access to the
building. They bring nesting material into the
home, and make quite a bit of noise scurrying
around. They can also fall down the chimney
flue and enter the fireplace.
Sometimes they fall
down a wall from the attic and get stuck in
between wall studs.

Squirrels chew their way into commercial
buildings or apartments. They often enter the
attic through the gable vent and can cause a fire
hazard in homes by bringing in nesting material,
and by chewing on power lines.
Squirrels can
leave behind a lot of droppings and urine in the
attic. The droppings not only smell bad, but pose
a biohazard.

Disease:
Squirrel pox, or squirrel fibroma is a viral disease
which produces multiple tumors on the skin of
gray and fox squirrels. It belongs to the pox
group of viruses which produce rabbit
fibromatosis, rabbit myxomatosis, hare
fibromatosis and some deer fibromas.

Solution:
There is no magic spray or device that you can
use to rid your dwelling of Squirrels. Some
people sell predator urine, such as coyote or fox
urine to get rid of squirrels, however, this has no
affect. They also sell ultrasonic sound emitters
which are worthless at eliminating not only
Squirrels but insects as well. Some old wives'
tales recommend the use of mothballs or
ammonia-soaked rags to make them leave, but
our technicians have been to countless homes
where these techniques failed.

Squirrel exclusion, trapping and relocation is
the only humane way to remove these fearless
foes.
